The best races for 2027 on the island of Tenerife
Activities02/10/2026 If you are looking for information about the 2027 races in Tenerife, we can tell you that next year will once again offer an especially interesting calendar for those who enjoy running, trail running, and endurance sports.
Tenerife is a unique destination for running and has an advantage that is hard to find in other destinations: on the same island, it is possible to train by the Atlantic, run among banana plantations, climb mountain paths, or face the island's volcanic landscapes.
All this with climatic conditions that allow for outdoor sports almost all year round, which means that every year more runners travel to the island with the intention of combining competition and vacation.
The 2027 calendar is not yet fully closed, but we already know some of the most prominent events, and today we bring you a selection of some of them.
The 2027 racing season in Tenerife begins with a more popular and family-friendly proposal, the “Discovering Fasnia Charity Race,” announced for January 23, 2027, in Fasnia, in the southeast of Tenerife.
The event combines sport and solidarity and features a 5-kilometer race, as well as activities such as children's races, Nordic walking, and hiking; without a doubt, an interesting option for those who travel with companions or prefer to start the year with a short-distance competition.
Just one day later, one of the first major events for mountain runners will arrive: the Guía de Isora Mountain Race.
The 2027 edition is confirmed for Sunday, January 24, and offers three distances: 10, 20, and 32 kilometers. The long race reaches 2,029 meters of positive elevation gain and a maximum altitude of 2,061 meters, while the 20-kilometer category adds 1,205 positive meters and the 10-kilometer, 508 meters.
More than just a distance race, it is a good example of what it means to run in Tenerife: in a few kilometers, you can go from the mid-altitudes to mountain terrain and experience significant changes in altitude.
February 6 will be the turn for a very different event, and here we have the Panadero Vertical Climb, in Santiago del Teide.
The route will be approximately 5.7 kilometers long, starting at the Plaza Abelardo González in Tamaimo and finishing at the Plaza de Arguayo. Here, distance is almost secondary; the goal is to overcome a continuous ascent that tests the strength and endurance of the runners.
The environment also deserves attention, as Tamaimo and Arguayo are part of a volcanic landscape characteristic of western Tenerife, with views towards the peaks and the Atlantic.
The month of February will bring another proposal for trail lovers, which is the Ruta del Gofio Mencey Trail in Granadilla de Abona, which will have different categories adapted to different levels, including long, medium, and short distances, as well as non-competitive hiking.
In this case, we recommend checking the exact date and registration details directly with the organization before planning your trip, as the final day has not yet been published.
March will be one of the most interesting months for trail running in Tenerife thanks to the Fuentealta Vilaflor Trail, whose 2027 edition is confirmed for March 12 and 13.
The competition takes place over two days: on Friday, a 6-kilometer vertical race with 620 meters of positive elevation gain is held. On Saturday, several categories are contested, with distances ranging from 12 kilometers to 29.2 kilometers.
Vilaflor, located in the high mid-altitudes of Tenerife, is also an excellent starting point for those who want to train in the mountains.
Its proximity to the Corona Forestal allows for combining competition with routes through pine forests and paths of great scenic interest, and for a runner traveling to Tenerife from the peninsula or abroad, it can be a good opportunity to extend the stay and take advantage of the days before or after the race for light training or recovery.
Among all the 2027 races in Tenerife, there is one that deserves its own chapter: the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB.
The event will return from April 8 to 10 and will once again bring together runners of different levels and nationalities in one of the great trail events of the Canary Islands.
The 2027 edition presents important new features in its program, most notably the new Bluetrail 68K, a 68-kilometer race with 3,600 meters of positive elevation gain that will start in La Esperanza and finish in Puerto de la Cruz.
The premier distance will be the 110K, starting from Playa de Los Cristianos. Its 110 kilometers cross the island from south to north and reach the surroundings of Teide before continuing towards Puerto de la Cruz. With 6,250 meters of positive elevation gain and a maximum time of 27 hours, it is a challenge reserved for runners with experience in ultra-distance. There will also be an 82K, a 47K, a relay category, and a 24K, as well as the Vertical Night Challenge.
For those traveling from outside Tenerife, it is worth arriving a little early and using the previous days to rest and acclimate, rather than concentrating the entire trip around the competition day.
Road running enthusiasts will also have their date in the south of the island with the Las Galletas Half Marathon, which usually takes place in April and does not yet have a confirmed date.
The event offers different distances, including the 21.097 kilometers of the half marathon, as well as shorter routes of 10.8 and 5 kilometers. It is an interesting alternative for those who prefer to compete near the sea and are looking for a different route than the mountain races.
The calendar of 2027 races in Tenerife is not yet fully closed and will continue to expand as the different organizations publish final dates for their events.
This is the case, for example, of the Binter NightRun Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a night race that combines sport and urban atmosphere and can be an attractive option for those who prefer to run after the sun goes down.
Over the coming months, new dates, categories, routes, and registration periods will be published, so if you are organizing a sports trip to Tenerife, it is advisable to always check the official information for each race before making reservations.
If you are thinking about booking a hotel to stay the days before or after any of the competitions, here we leave you access to our website so you can make your reservation.
We look forward to seeing you!
